DESCRIPTION
Join us in a dynamic, interactive two-day workshop on aligning your curriculum to the Common Core standards featuring Heidi Hayes Jacobs, internationally recognized leader in the field of curriculum and Dr. Ann Johnson, Director of Professional Development for Curriculum Designers.
You will be guided through designing curriculum plans with corresponding formative assessments which are aligned to the Common Core Standards. The goal is to map a coherent and engaging set of learning experiences scaffolded year-to-year and class-to-class K-12. A special focus will be on upgrading your work to match the needs of 21st century learners in your specific school setting. You will receive specific strategies on how to map the standards, create formative assessments, and employ digital tools. In addition, you will learn how to organize your faculty to translate unpacked standards into curriculum units.
The sessions will be lively and engaging so we recommend that you bring your laptops or tablets for a more productive experience.
Heidi and Ann will target Phases One through Four of the Mapping to the Core Process. They will share specific strategies from their new LiveBook and LivePlanner with School Improvement Network, Mapping to the Core: Integrating the Common Core Standards into Your Local School Curriculum. Your team will leave with a working professional development plan which will help guide implementation school and system-wide.
Their approach is also based on Heidi’s best-selling book with ASCD, Curriculum 21: Essential Education in a Changing World, which includes future-oriented activities and assessments aligned to the Core maps.
